Eleanor Cooke studied at the Royal Academy of Music and whilst there won several major prizes including the Hovis prize for Outstanding String Playing. She then took up a full time position as a first violin with the Royal Opera House Orchestra Covent Garden and subsequently the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra where she was a sub-principal First violin for many years.

 

On leaving, Eleanor enjoyed freelancing with many orchestras including CBSO, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Swan and also Orchestra da Camera. She also performed with her string quartet in several concerts for the CBSO ‘Centre Stage’ Chamber music series.

 

Eleanor is currently a core violinist with Orchestra Pro Anima, English Symphony Orchestra and English String Orchestra. With these she is doing recordings, concerts and festivals all around the country.

 

In 2019 she was appointed Principal 2nd Violin in The Sinfonia Stellaris, and in 2022 became the Co-Leader.
