Meet our Principals

Frank Stubbs hails from Chesterfield in Derbyshire where he started playing the Cornet in local Brass Bands, most notably Rhodian Brass. Whilst studying at South East Derbyshire College, Frank was urged to switch to the Trumpet, as there were more playing opportunities. Around this time Frank started touring with the ensemble Sounds of the Blues Brothers, one of the first tribute acts to the cult film and was seen (but not heard) on the film Memphis Belle. After this Frank went on to study music at Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of Jon Holland and Wes Warren (both CBSO) and Andy Culshaw (Fine Arts Brass Ensemble).

Since graduating from the Conservatoire Frank has played with some of the country’s leading orchestras including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, B.B.C. Philharmonic Orchestra, the English National Ballet, English Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan, Orchestra da Camera, Bach Camerata,Central England Camerata, Corelli Ensemble and The Kidderminster Festival Orchestra, now renamed The Sinfonia Stellaris. Frank also performs in a Trumpet and OrganPiano duo with accompanist Darren Hogg as well as with Chamber music ensembles such as Sennet Brass, with whom he recorded Christmas from Worcester with the Worcester Cathedral Choir and Worcester Festival Choral Society.

Frank performed solo Trumpet on the 2016 live B.B.C radio broadcast of the Easter Sunday morning service from Worcester Cathedral and is frequently found in ‘pit’ orchestras for shows across the Midlands.  Along with all these diverse musical settings Frank likes to fill in with the award winning ‘Fat Chops Big Band’ when the opportunity arises and at the opposite end of the spectrum performs on Baroque Trumpet with the Armonico Consort.
