MATTHEW GREEN

Principal Percussionist

Born in Norfolk, Matthew began his musical training at the age of three. When aged sixteen he went on to attend the Colchester Institute School of Music, where he earned his BA Hons Degree, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Performance with Distinction at Birmingham Conservatoire.

 

Matthew is a very versatile musician and has immersed himself in all the diverse aspects of percussion performance from Baroque to Rock! His skills are in demand, on the one hand, with Big Bands and Jazz ensembles, recording for rock and pop artists, while on the other hand, working throughout the UK with ensembles such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Northern Chamber Orchestra, C18th Century Concert Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Royal Shakespeare Company, The Globe and The Kidderminster Festival Orchestra, now renamed The Sinfonia Stellaris.

 

Matthew has a passion for ‘World Music’ which has enabled him over time to perform with leading musicians from around the globe. He was invited to perform at the Queen’s 90th Birthday Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral. Matthew regularly leads drum workshops and clinics and has started up his own monthly drumming club at the Palace Theatre in Redditch called the Palace Drum Clinic.
